The grand jurors for the state … sworn and charged to enquire for the body of the county as on their oath do say that on 14th March 1831 at … county of a certain Mary Johnson late of county spinster, not having the fear of God before her eyes but being moved and seduced by the instigation of the devil being of sound mind and discretion, unlawfully, maliciously deliberately feloniously willfully and of malice aforethought ….. one Merrywether Johnson her husband then and there being in the .. of the state to poison kill and murder on the 14th March 1831 - in the county of a certain quantity.

The grand jurors for the state impaneled sworn and charged to enquire for the body of the county aforesaid upon their oath present and say that in the … day of … in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty-one at … in the county aforesaid a certain Mary Johnston late of said county spinster not having the fear of God before her eyes but being moved and seduced by the instigation of the Devil being of sound memory and discretion unlawfully, feloniously, willfully, and of her malice aforethought deciding and intending one Merrywhether Johnston her husband then and there being in the peace of the state to poison kill and murder on the said … day of … in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-one, at in the county of Washington aforesaid, a certain quantity of,(being a deadly poison) unlawfully, feloniously, maliciously, deliberately, premeditatedly, willfully and if her malice aforethought did put infused in and mix together with water in a certain cup of the value of one cent; and the said poison, so by her put and mixed together with water in a cup she the said Mary Johnston on the day and year aforesaid at in the county aforesaid did pour out into cases and the same then and there unlawfully, willfully, maliciously, deliberately, premeditatedly

Poison and in not knowing the same to be deadly poison he having it to be good and wholesome medicine – by … which taking drinking and swallowing down into the body the said Merryweather Johnston of the said doses of arsenic aforesaid unlawfully, willfully, deliberately, premeditatedly, maliciously, feloniously of her malice aforethought put infused in and mix together with water by the said Mary Johnston an aforesaid said Merryweather Johnston became sick and disturbed in his body of which said … and … of body by the said doses of arsenic so as aforesaid put infused and mixed together with water by the said Mary Johnston aforesaid as and for good and wholesome medicine she knew of same to be deadly poison she the said Merryweather Johnston on the said … day of … in the year aforesaid did languish and languishing did live until … day of … in the year aforesaid on which last mentioned day at in the county aforesaid the said Merryweather Johnston of the said arsenic so taken down and swallow down into his body did die and so the jurors of said upon their oath aforesaid so say that the said Mary Johnston him the said Merryweather Johnston her husband in the … and by the …aforesaid unlawfully, willfully, deliberately, premeditatedly, maliciously, feloniously, and of her malice aforethoughtdid poison kill and murder to the great displeasure of almighty god to the wit of encamped of all them in like cases pending… that of assembly in such case made and provided and against the … of the state

The jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid further present and say that on the … in the year aforesaid … in the county aforesaid the said Mary Johnston spinster if said county unlawfully, willfully, maliciously, deliberately, premeditatedly and feloniously by and of her malice aforethought devising and intending the said Merryweather Johnston her husband then and there being in the peace of the state to poison kill and murder a certain quantity of arsenic (being a deadly poison) unlawfully, willfully, maliciously, deliberately, premeditatedly, feloniously and of her malice aforethought did put infuse in and mix together in water in a certain cup of the value of one cent and the said poison so by her put infused and mixed together with water in a cup she the said Mary Johnston on the day and year aforesaid at in the county aforesaid did … into doses and the same then and there unlawfully, willfully, deliberately, premeditatedly, maliciously, feloniously of her malice aforethought did give unto the said Merryweather Johnston to take drink and swallow down into his body as and for good and suitable medicine and did cause and procure the said Merryweather Johnston then and there to take drink and swallow down into the body said doses of poison she knowing the same to be..
