DAVID

Dave, otherwise called Dave, a slave (being at the time of the grievances hereafter mentioned the property of one William Deakins and now being the property of [unidentified] Deakins deceased) not having the fear of god before his eyes, but being moved and seduced by the investigation of the devil heretofore, to wit, on the thirtieth day of August in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, at, to wit, in the county aforesaid with force and arms, in and upon one William Deakins, them being the master and owner of him the said David otherwise called Dave - and also being feloniously and of his malice aforethought did make an assault and that the said David otherwise called Dave a slave aforesaid with a certain one of the value of one dollar which he the said David otherwise called Dave in both his hands then and there had and held the said William Deakins being his master and owner as aforesaid in and upon the right side of the head of him the said William Deakins then and there feloniously, willfully, and of his malice aforethought did strike and wound giving to the said William Deakins one mortal wound of the breadth of two inches and of the depth of three inches
